Factory of the Future – Omron’s installation at ARENA2036
At ARENA2036, we had the opportunity to experience OMRON’s 5G MIPS first-hand and gained an insight into what the factory of the future might look like.
OMRON has joined the ARENA 2036 research campus. This is a joint initiative between academia and industry that aims to transform mobility and manufacturing through cutting-edge developments and technologies.
The 5G MIPS demonstration highlights, amongst other things, the benefits of the 5G private wireless network for communication between mobile robot fleets. A key focus is on improved human-machine collaboration, as well as more sustainable, seamless and efficient manufacturing processes.
In the ‘Human Machine Collaboration’ demonstration, the MoMa’s arm automatically triggers the lifting of the boxes. This installation utilises our WPG-series gripper, which lifts and stacks the boxes ‘sensitively’ and precisely. The WPG series servo grippers offer a large, freely programmable stroke whilst maintaining compact external dimensions. The sealed housing ensures increased robustness and reliable operation even under harsh operating conditions. A particular advantage for use at the MoMa is that the WPG series gripper modules can be controlled directly from the robot controller via a GRIPLINK plug-in. This eliminates the need for a PLC or PC controller – a major benefit, particularly for mobile applications.
We are proud to be supporting such a visionary installation with our products.
